Don’t be offended if an Ardeche local tries to offer you something that sounds less than pleasant. Hang on a minute. Maybe they’re talking about an Ardeche speciality made from pork belly: the maouche, just like la pogne - a crown shaped brioche, and la minerve!

For more responsible travel, take a break from your car and take the local steam train, the Mastrou, to get around local attractions, surrounded by blueberries and wild pigs. 

Just 45 minutes from Vallon-Pont-d’Arc, the village of Darbres has created an eco-village dotted with trees. Over in the town of Balazuc, a cooperative hamlet promoting sustainable tourism and encouraging young people to protect the environment has been set up.
