Oh, Normandy... Between the coast and the inland, this region with its contrasting landscapes is nothing less than attractive. It invites you to stroll, to relax, to contemplate, and offers magnificent views, both on the coast and inland. Experience all this first hand by booking a Normandy holiday rental.

Holidays in Normandy: a region with a thousand faces

Normandy now includes the two former regions of Haute-Normandie and Basse-Normandie. The advantage is that you cannot go wrong when you book your holiday rental in Normandy! This large region is made up of the departments of Seine-Maritime, Eure, Calvados, Manche and Orne. The Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey are just a short distance away, off the Cotentin peninsula.

Normandy has a multitude of cities with a rich heritage, where it is good to walk around with your nose up in the air to admire all the wonders: Rouen and Caen, of course, but also Alencon, Arromanches, Bayeux, Cabourg, Deauville, Le Havre, Honfleur, Lisieux... Not to mention the international star, located just a stone's throw from your holiday rental in Normandy: the Mont-Saint-Michel! This site has been recognized by UNESCO, which has included three Norman properties on the World Heritage List:

  • The Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay,
  • The Tatihou and Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue observatory towers, as part of Vauban's fortifications,
  • And Le Havre, the city rebuilt by Auguste Perret after the Second World War.

In addition, UNESCO has awarded the Memory of the World label to the Bayeux Tapestry, also known as the "Queen Matilda Tapestry", which is said to have been commissioned by her.

As for local specialities, it is impossible to leave your holiday rental in Normandy without having tasted the region's iconic local products: apples, seafood, milk and meat. You can enjoy cider and calvados, leg of lamb from the salt marshes, Caen-style tripe, bourdelots, and of course, the real Camembert!

You can also take advantage of your stay to discover the Normandy craftsmanship in all its forms: lace from Alencon, the shipyards of Cherbourg, Rouen earthenware, Bayeux porcelain, glass from the Bresle valley...

A few ideas for activities near your holiday rental in Normandy

Because of its size, Normandy offers a wide range of activities to keep you busy during your holidays. For a relaxing holiday, there is nothing like the sound of round pebbles rolled by the sea on the beaches of the Alabaster coast, at the foot of the cliffs of the Pays de Caux. If the pebbles seem uncomfortable to you for lazing around, the Flowery coast and the Nacre coast open their fine sandy beaches to you. They stretch endlessly, notably in Deauville, Trouville and Courseulles-sur-Mer, but also in the south of the Cotentin peninsula, in Saint-Vaast and in the Mont-Saint-Michel bay.

By the way, it would be almost criminal to go to Normandy without visiting the Mont-Saint-Michel, a jewel of sacred art. You may be lucky enough to witness the transformation of the Mount into an island during high tide.

But choosing a holiday rental in Normandy also means choosing the theatre of the D-Day landings on 6th June 1944, one of the turning points of the Second World War. Going to the D-Day landing beaches or visiting one of the English, American or Canadian cemeteries that have been set up not far from the coast is always a very emotional moment. Numerous museums and memorials line the coastline to pay tribute to freedom fighters.

However, the history of the region did not begin in 1944: Normandy has inherited a past that is rich in events, which have left visible traces in the landscape and architecture. By choosing a holiday rental in Normandy, you can visit the Gaillard castle fortress, wander in the old basin of Honfleur, get lost in the countless villages filled with half-timbered houses... Unless you prefer to feel dizzy at the top of the Etretat cliffs or while practicing extreme sports in the Norman Switzerland region!
